Green ICT VICTIS – Green ICT from Eastern Finland

Green ICT VICTIS – Green ICT from Eastern Finland

VICTIS enhances the readiness of ICT companies and user companies of ICT solutions in North Karelia for the green transition through ICT-assisted means. The project aims to raise awareness among companies about the environmental impacts of their operations and strengthen their capabilities to minimize these impacts.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the ICT sector produces 2-5 percent of all emissions globally. These emissions are concentrated in modern information societies, such as Finland. Handprint effects could potentially reduce up to 20 percent of all emissions this decade.

The aim of the VICTIS – Green ICT from Eastern Finland project is to train ICT purchasers to demand greener ICT solutions, particularly those considering handprint effects, and to train ICT sector actors to meet changing needs. The project aims to raise companies’ awareness of their own environmental impacts and improve their readiness to minimize these impacts. The methods of the VICTIS project are based on the Ministry of Transport and Communications’ ICT sector climate and environmental program for climate change actions and natural resource actions. Regarding the circular economy, the actions of the VICTIS project are directed at the national circular economy roadmap created by Sitra.

The actions of the VICTIS project are focused on the North Karelia region. Alongside the VICTIS project, similar sister projects are being implemented in South Savo by LUT University and in North Savo by the University of Eastern Finland.

Materials to Support Companies’ Climate Work

VICTIS is one of several Green ICT projects. All materials produced in the Green ICT projects are updated in the Green ICT portal maintained by TIEKE.

The VICTIS project will produce an online survey-based tool to measure the organizational maturity of green ICT. The tool assesses the level of green maturity and provides the evaluated organization with development suggestions to improve maturity.

In addition to the green maturity tool, the VICTIS project will produce guides that consider the handprint of both procurement and production. These handprint guides will include real case descriptions from companies in the North Karelia region. The handprint guides are intended to complement the footprint guides produced in previous Green ICT projects.
