TIEKE The Finnish Information Society Development Centre has launched a project to improve energy efficiency in property management and real estate services by leveraging data and identifying methods that support both the green transition and the everyday work of professionals in the field. The project aligns with the Innovation and Skills Finland 2021–2027 programme and contributes to it’s Carbon neutral Finland objective, which promotes energy efficiency measures and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Aiming for practical and impactful solutions
Through pilot testing, the project develops operational models that enable property data to be used effectively in energy-saving decision-making. These models will also improve work processes and competencies while fostering a business ecosystem that supports sharing, usage, and utilization of data among industry stakeholders. The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health leads the development of work processes in property management offices, ensuring that new digital solutions enhance rather complicate the daily operations. KIRAHub, leveraging its extensive industry network, is responsible for building the business ecosystem and managing project communications in collaboration with TIEKE.
Concrete outcomes of the project
- A pilot version of a digital solution will be developed to enable property managers to access average and comparative data on energy efficiency, including electricity consumption, heating energy, and water usage. The project also lays the groundwork for the broad adoption of this solution across property management companies.
- To support data-driven energy savings, an EnergyData operating model will be created. The model includes an annual calendar-based guide for energy-saving through data, practical advice for managing the transformation process and tools for participatory development.
- Training materials and webinars will be provided to strengthen data skills within the property management and real estate services sector, helping professionals make informed decisions that support energy efficiency.
Overall, the project aims to accelerate the development of data-driven business ecosystems that promote energy savings in housing companies. The digital solution, EnergyData model, and training content produced through the project will be scalable and applicable nationwide.
Pilot companies are involved from the start
The first pilot companies have been selected to represent units of various sizes from different regions across Finland. These pilots will support the development and testing of solutions that can be scaled to a wider group of industry stakeholders nationwide. The names of the pilot companies will be announced at a later stage.
Focus on communication and impact
The project places strong emphasis on active communication throughout its duration. Updates are shared regularly through blog posts that track the project’s progress, and both local and remote events are organized. Actions and results from the pilot organizations will also be published.
The project can be followed on TIEKE’s website, TIEKE’s LinkedIn and other social media as well as KIRAHub’s website and social media. All updates, news and published project materials will be shared under the hashtag #datallaenergiansäästöä.
