Competitive Skills – Nationwide Open Badge -constellation of problem solving in technology-rich environments
Objectives
The aim of the project is to develop a nationwide open badge constellation, which enables the verification of adults’ problem solving skills in technology-rich environments (PIAAC) by identifying and recognizing competences acquired outside the formal education system, at different levels of education, and in transition phases of the education structure. In addition, the project provides a requirement framework of competence (determining the composition of objectives, core contents and assessment criteria) for securing IT-related problem-solving skills in non-formal education.
Procedures
The project will create the competence-based skill set for people with inadequate ICT and data management skills and a nationwide competence constellation for problem-solving skills in information technology, to be piloted with different target groups within vocational education and adult education. The training takes advantage of the training modules (TAITAVA, Digital path to work) created in previous projects, where the competence-based digital badges built in this project visualize the learning outcomes and guide the competence-based learning process as a tool for assessment.
The pilot projects will ensure the basic ICT and data management skills of the students involved in the pilots, as well as they will familiarize their trainers and teachers with digital open badge-driven learning. In the pilot projects of liberal adult education, also the skills of trainers are verified with special competence-based badges. The badge constellation of competences will be readjusted based on the experiences of pilot projects’ instructors, teachers and students until published.
Results
OSUVAT TAIDOT – The process and structures of the nationwide open badge constellation will be described in research publications and the model will be published in TIEKE’s (The Finnish Information Society Development Centre) service, where the system will also be centrally updated in the future. The TIEKE website will also contain requirement framework of competence (determining the composition of objectives, core contents and assessment criteria) for securing IT-related problem-solving skills in non-degree-based training. This will allow an equal, egalitarian and transparent way of ensuring future IT skills in different type of training and by different organizations. The model will be published with a Creative Commons -license and will be freely available to various training providers for noncommercial purposes.
