GDPR4CHLDRN – Ensuring data protection in hobbies

The GDPR4CHLDRN project provides information about the protection of personal data and data protection rights to children, young people and their parents. Materials targeted at them as well as icons that clarify concepts related to data protection will be developed in the project. In addition, a toolkit to support compliance with data protection legislation and its application will be created for associations and hobby clubs that organise hobby activities for children and young people.

The Green ICT project builds climate-consciousness in IT

In total, various ICT solutions are responsible for between 4 and 10 per cent of the global annual electricity consumption, and three to five per cent of global greenhouse emissions. With the right actions, however, the carbon footprint of a single ICT service can be reduced by up to 90 per cent. The Finnish Information Society Development Centre (TIEKE), the Finnish Information Processing Association (TIVIA) and LUT University have launched a two-year Green ICT project funded by the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council, in which we accelerate carbon neutral digital services and procurement of businesses and the public sector in the Helsinki-Uusimaa region of Finland.

Digitalisation is leading us towards a cleaner future

Artificial intelligence, data and high-speed networks are needed for making the circular economy a reality, for carbon balance monitoring, for the implementation of low-emission transport, work and housing, and for supporting climate action by citizens. At the same time, however, the environmental load of digitalisation must be reduced.

Energy consumption in data transfer is a core issue in solving the climate challenge

The world’s data centres generate as much CO2 as air traffic. Transferring waste heat to the district heating network is a partial solution – many other measures are also needed.
