E-invoices can be sent via services available online without monthly billing. These services usually allow only for a limited number of invoices sent, so they are particularly suitable for small businesses that only need to send a few invoices per year.

E-invoices are increasingly popular among businesses. Some years ago, a law came into force in Finland that grants the invoice recipient the right to demand invoices to be received in electronic form, i.e., as an e-invoice.

Sending and receiving an e-invoice requires an agreement with an e-invoice service provider. The agreement usually also includes a fixed monthly price.

Agreements are not only entered into so the service provider can charge for the service. In Finland, the e-invoice service provide also has an obligation to uniquely identify the sender of an invoice. Identification prevents sending so-called fake invoices.

Fixed-price contracts can be challenging for many small businesses and an extra expense. This is especially true if a business only needs to send some invoices per month.

However, some e-invoice service providers offer a service where the sender is charged based on the number of invoices sent, not on a fixed contract. These services typically require the user to log in and to accept the terms of use.

The Finnish e-invoice forum has compiled a list of services that allow send e-invoices without a fixed monthly fee.
